Choose Your Own Adventure: 4 Day Trips Through Central Nova Scotia
- Details

Summer is the perfect time to hit the road and discover somewhere new, but how you explore is totally up to you. Whether you’re chasing thrills, searching for great vintage finds, planning the perfect family day, or just want to sip something cold on a sunny patio, Central Nova Scotia has you covered.
We’ve pulled together four itineraries to help you spend a day your way.
1. For the Thrill-Seeker: Ride the Tide and Embrace the Mud
Start your day with an epic tidal bore rafting adventure on the Shubenacadie River. Get your adrenaline pumping as you bounce over the tidal waves, then dive into some classic Nova Scotia mudsliding—it’s messy, it’s wild, and it’s unforgettable. Book your adventure: Fundy Tidal Bore Adventures or Shubenacadie River Adventure Tours.
After you clean up, head to Coldstream Clear Distillery for a well-earned tasting flight on their sun-soaked patio. Sip on local spirits and cheers to a day well-lived.
If you’re coming from the south: Grab a bite at The Nook and Cranny Brew Pub in Truro on your way home—hearty eats and local craft brews await.
2. For the Antique Hunter: Great Village Treasures & Maritime Finds
If your perfect day involves vintage shops and hidden gems, you’ll love Great Village. Start at the Great Village Antiques Exchange, where you can browse everything from old books to maritime relics.
Then, take a short scenic drive to That Dutchman’s Cheese Farm in Economy for a stroll, gourmet cheese, and to meet some furry farm animals.
3. For the Laid-Back Lounger: Maple Syrup, Forest Trails, and Patio Vibes
Ease into your day at Sugar Moon Farm in Earltown. Enjoy a maple-forward brunch, walk their wooded trails, and pick up some syrup to take home. It’s a calm, tasty way to start your day.
Afterward, head to Tatamagouche Brewing Co. for a sunny seat on their patio and a cold pint. Wander the nearby shops or grab something sweet from Creamery Square Market if you're visiting on a Saturday.
Make a night out of it: Book a whole train caboose at the Train Station Inn for an unforgettable stay.
4. For the Whole Family: Parks, Play, and a Mammoth Adventure
Kick things off at Victoria Park in Truro with a nature walk and cool-down at the splash pad. There’s room for the kids to run and plenty of shade for a mid-morning snack break.
Then, head to Mastodon Ridge in Stewiacke, where you’ll find museum exhibits, minigolf, and of course—the life-sized mastodon. Top off the day with an ice cream before heading home!

Strategic Tourism Expansion Program (STEP)
- Details
Over the past year, the municipalities of Truro, Colchester and Stewiacke and the community of Millbrook First Nation jointly and strategically underwent a STEP process (described below) to develop a plan for enhancement and growth in local, community-level tourism products and experiences and the use of marketing levy funds in the region. The STEP process and a formal report of its findings and recommendations are now complete and the four councils are set to review the report and its recommendations for adoption in March 2025. A copy of the STEP report will be available to the public once fully adopted.
