Requirement to Register

Tourist accommodations that are required to register and collect a marketing

  • Apartments, condos, houses and vacation homes
  • Bed and breakfasts
  • Cottages, cabins and tiny homes
  • Dormitory-style rooms and hostels
  • Hotels, motels and inns
  • Resorts
  • Rooms (including a room in a home)
  • Self-contained secondary suites (like a basement apartment or a loft above a garage)
  • Unusual lodgings (like yurts, domes and camping trailers)
  • Tourist accommodations that are EXEMPT from registering and collecting the

Tourist accommodations that are EXEMPT from registering and collecting the marketing levy

  • Accommodations charging less than twenty dollars per day
  • Campgrounds that are not roofed (like campsites where travellers bring their tents or trailers)
  • Rentals in a building owned or operated by a post-secondary educational institution renting to students who are registered at and attending that post-secondary educational institution
  • Long-term accommodations (over 30 days)
  • Family lodging rentals related to medical reasons

Register for the Levy

Registration of each tourist accommodation for the marketing levy may be completed on this website. In the alternative, if an accommodation operator does not have online access, they may register by completing the prescribed  pdf registration form(113 KB)  and emailing it directly to the Tourism Marketing Levy Coordinator at This email address is being protected from spambots. If registration cannot be completed online or the completed registration form provided by email, the registration form may be mailed or dropped off to the Tourism Marketing Levy Coordinator for processing. All fields on the registration form must be completed and the information provided must be accurate or registration for the marketing levy may be delayed.

Registration Review and Confirmation

The Tourism Marketing Levy Coordinator will correspond by email directly with each registrant to confirm that registration is complete or to advise if additional information is required and, when complete, a marketing levy registration number will be issued followed by a certificate of registration.

Certificate of Registration

A marketing levy registration certificate will be issued by the Tourism Marketing Levy Coordinator to each accommodation operator. The certificate must be posted in a visible place within the

accommodation operator's business/tourist accommodation and returned when required to do so including upon cessation of the operator's business. The certificate is not transferable.
